Meet the Sitters!

This is our third week doing the "Meet the Sitters" feature on our blog, we hope you are enjoying it as much as we are in the office!

Meet Zayna!

Week 3

Name: Zayna Ibrahim

Hometown: Latham, New York

Age: 20
Major: Business

Favorite Color : Pink
Favorite Candy: York Peppermint Patties

One interesting fact about yourself:

When I was 6 or 7, I played soccer. I think it took me 3 or 4 games to finally get the ball, and when I did I stopped to jump up and down and yell to my mom “look I got the ball”. Needless to say, it got stolen from me right away.

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who
would it be and why?

Michael Jordan. I remember staying up late on school nights just to watch him play. He was an amazing basketball player and I would love to hear about his experiences first hand. Of course, playing basketball in Space Jam is the first experience I would ask to hear about.

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day?

Watching the New York Giants! Unless football season is over, then cuddling up in bed with a cup of tea and reading or watching TV.

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child
while working for SMS?

“Do you know what a baby is? Because a baby, a baaaby, and a babyyyyy, are three different things.” – Anonymous

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be a singer. I used to drive my parents crazy by singing the same song over and over again on my karaoke machine.

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three
items, what would they be?

I would bring a really long book to kill time, a phone to call for help, and a flotation device so I could float around in the ocean while I read.

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

Two of my neighbors, my brother, my babysitter, and I were building a soccer net in my backyard. I stepped on glass and got a piece caught in my foot. My babysitter and her brother immediately brought a first aid kit and 10 pillows outside for me to lay on while they “performed surgery” on my foot. Her brother actually ended up becoming a doctor! I guess I was good practice.

What has been your most memorable experience while
working with SMS?

I had an overnight with one of my regulars. I had babysat them so much that having an overnight was just like having a sleepover with two of my family members! It was so fun, they invented a game that we played and they made me feel like a kid all over again.

Meet the Sitters!

Week 2!
Meet Maggie!

Name: Maggie Berry
Hometown: Green, Ohio
Age: 22
Major: Human Development and Family Sciences/Pre-Nursing

Favorite Color : Yellow
Favorite Candy: Kit Kat

One interesting fact about yourself:

When I was 8, I was entered into an Oreo stacking contest and
became the fastest Oreo stacker in Ohio!

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who
would it be and why
?

I love Ellen Degeneres, she is the funniest person on TV, so having
dinner with her would be one hilarious experience.

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day?

Reading a good book and drinking Starbucks or catching up on my
guilty pleasure- Law and Order.

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child
while working for SMS?

“You know Maggie, Smurfs are real, some people think I’m crazy,
but I know they’re out there.” –anonymous.

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be an Oceanographer because I thought it just meant
I’d get to swim with dolphins all day!

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three
items, what would they be?

My dog Teddy, a really good book, and my cell phone to call for
help!

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

When I was 8, my siblings and I convinced our babysitter that
before eating dinner, our mom always danced around the kitchen
to some goofy song we had on a children’s cd. The babysitter was
such a good sport she played along every time she came over to
sit. Looking back, I know she knew we were making it up, but her
going along with it made me realize it is the small things that really
matter.

What has been your most memorable experience while
working with SMS?

When I had gone back to a house to sit several times, the mom told
me her daughter was so excited for me to be coming back because
I was “fun and nice”. To know that a three year old remembered
me in that way couldn’t have made me happier!

New Year, New look!

Over the weekend, the SMS office got a bit of a makeover.  Although it is still a work in progress, we are so excited about some of the new touches.  Being in a space that is well organized and aesthetically pleasing makes working so much more enjoyable.  Here is a sneak peak at one of our favorite new design elements, chalk board paint.  Stay tuned for more pictures as we finish the space!

Meet the Sitters!

Hello! SMS had decided to add a new feature to the Intern Blog.  Each week we will feature a sitter  and have them answer a few fun questions to help us get to know them better. If you are a sitter, and would like to be featured in the coming weeks, be sure to email [email@sittingmadesimple.com]

WEEK 1!

Meet Morgan!

Name: Morgan C.
Hometown: St. Louis, MO. (Go Cards!)
Age: 22
Major: Communications, Fashion Merchandising

Favorite Color: Indigo Blue
Favorite Candy: Twix

One interesting fact about yourself: I have an obsession with avocados.

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
I had to think about this, but I would choose twiggy.  She was an english, model and actress for those of you who are like, "who is that?"

It is a lazy sunday, how would you spend your day?
I would sleep in with no alarm, wake up and grab my computer, spend the day lounging with my puppy surfing the internet.

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child while working for SMS?
I wont say who, but a little girl about 5 years old, asked me.. "why is your stomach so big, do you have a baby in there" That boosted my self esteem. And no, I was not pregnant.

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?
Growing up i changed my mind 100x but i remember wanting to be a marine biologist.  I think it was because I loved the movie flipper.

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three items, what would they be?
I would chose, bottled water, endless avocados, and yacht to come pick me up.

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?
Growing up my parents went out every saturday, which means we had a babysitter.  This is terrible to admit, but we used to play pranks on all the sitters.  Looking back, Im sure we drove them absolutely crazy.

What has been your most memorable experience while working with SMS?
It is hard to chose one moment, but,  I was sitting for a family and as I was getting ready to leave the client asked if I would like to stay for dinner, off the clock.  I stayed and enjoyed a home cooked meal while sitting at their kitchen table and talking to the kids about their days at school.  It was great to have a home cooked meal, and to get to know the family I was sitting for!
