Meet Lauren!

Name: Lauren Szabo
Age: 20
Major: Business specializing in marketing

Favorite Color: Coral
Favorite Candy: Snickers Peanut Butter Squared

One interesting fact about yourself:

I have two mini lop bunnies named Snacks and Simba

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

I would choose to have dinner with my sister, Hilary.  My older sister is one of my best friends, but she lives in Boston now, where she goes to school, and I live here in Columbus, so we hardly ever get to see each other anymore.  If I could have just one extra night with her a year, I would be very happy!

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day?

On a lazy Sunday, I would spend the day watching movies in bed with all my roommates, who are also my best friends.  We could spend all day watching movies on Netflix, especially if it is rainy or cold out.  If it is a very lazy Sunday and no one feels like cooking, we will also often take a break during our movie marathon to go to our favorite restaurant, Chipotle.

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child while working for SMS?

The little girl I am currently babysitting will often say really funny and cute comments.  Just today, we were driving home from school when we saw a cute, little dog, which she thought "definitely looked like a honey dog".  When I asked her what a "honey dog" was, she casually remarked that "oh, it's a dog filled with honey!" like it was a common type of animal.  I'm not sure where she came up with that, but it definitely made me laugh.

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?

When I was growing up I always wanted to be a Chef.  I would even attempt to make "dinners", that were actually just a bunch of different sauces mixed together.  Now, I don't want to be a professional Chef anymore, but I still love to cook and I'm actually able to make real dinners.

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three items, what would they be?

I would pick a beach umbrella, so that I would always have shade; matches, so that I could build a fire; and a LifeStraw, so that I could always have clean water.

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

My favorite memory from a childhood babysitter was when our summer nanny, Megan, took me, my sister and my cousin to SeaWorld.  While at SeaWorld we saw all different types of animals, ate some good junk food, and saw a dog show.  Then on the way back to the car we ran in between the yellow poles, pretended like we were the dogs from the show.  It's one of my favorite memories from when Megan babysat us, and I even still have a picture of my cousin and sister next to the SeaWorld mascot, which was a walrus, and I'm standing about three feet away from them all because I was so afraid of the mascot!

What has been your most memorable experience while working with SMS?

My most memorable experiences with SMS have been when the families I babysit for make me feel like more than just a babysitter.  It can be something as little as some candy on Valentine's Day or Halloween, but little things like that really make you feel like part of the family are always great!

One interesting fact about yourself:

I grew up on a farm and I used to show pigs and sheep.

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who
would it be and why?

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day?

Going to church, watching football, and going shopping.

A "pony rider" and a lifeguard

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three

My phone (has a bunch of pictures to remind me of all my family and friends), a lifetime supply of food and water, and clothes.

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

My Grandma would come and pick me up from the babysitter and I would cry because I was scared of her and wanting to keep playing at the babysitters. This didn't last long before my grandma and I became really really close.

Meet Veronica!

Name: Veronica Bruns
Hometown: Coldwater, OH
Age: 21
Major: Biology

Favorite Color: Purple
Favorite Candy: Reese's Cups

One interesting fact about yourself:

I'm an avid runner. I started running in the 7th grade and got hooked!

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who
would it be and why?

If I could have dinner with anyone, I would chose Luke Bryan, the country singer.
Not only does he have some great songs and relatable lyrics, he has built his career
from the ground up and has faced some tough hardships, so I'd love to hear his story
from himself personally.

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day?

I'm not much of a person who likes to sit around and read a book or watch TV, so you
would probably find me outside.

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?

Growing up as a kid I always wanted to be a Doctor, and now currently in the application
process for dental school!

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three
items, what would they be?

My cell phone to call for help, my swimsuit so I can enjoy myself while I'm stranded
& of course chocolate to satisfy my appetite!

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

As a kid, my favorite place to hang out was at the public pool. One summer day, me and
my siblings made our sitter go down the kiddie slide, and of course her crush was the one
life guarding at that time. Needless to say, she was a bit embarrassed.

What has been your most memorable experience while
working with SMS?

It has been great building relationships with the kids I babysit for regularly. I also love that this job makes me feel like a kid all over again at times!

Sleeping in, cooking a big brunch for me and my roommates, watching Netflix, calling
my parents to say hi…and also to ask them to send me some home cooked meals

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child
while working for SMS?

One girl I was babysitting was making the transition from bubblegum flavored
toothpaste to mint toothpaste and told me that she didn’t like the new “spicy”
toothpaste she had to use

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?

A famous singer

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three
items, what would they be?

Sunscreen, my dog, and the Harry Potter books (if I had to choose only one of
them it would be the Goblet of Fire)

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

My older siblings would always babysit me, so whenever my parents would be
gone, my brother would dress me up in his hockey gear and practice his slap shots
in our back yard with me as the goalie…..that stopped after my parents came home
early one day…..

What has been your most memorable experience while
working with SMS?

I have really enjoyed getting to see the kids grow up so fast…. It always amazes me when I visit a family after a few months of not babysitting them and the kid has a new loose tooth or is able to read a book or any sort of change that happened since the last time I was there.
