Meet our Intern Sarah!

What were you expecting on your first day interning and how was it different?

I remember worrying about what to wear on my first day… should I wear something business casual? Dress pants? In the end, I decided to wear a nice blouse and nice pants. Then I walked in and saw everyone in sweat pants and sweat shirts. I was relieved and knew immediately that I would fit in.

What is your favorite part about interning for SMS?

Honestly I LOVE to get to know people, so my favorite part is being in a work environment where I can socialize and have fun while also getting work done.

What is your favorite quote?

“This above all: to thine own self be true.” –Shakespeare
I think this is one of the most difficult but rewarding things that people go through in their life (but then again, I’m only 20).

What is the furthest you have ever been from home?

Mexico, coincidentally with the SMS interns! (It was a blast!!)

What is your TV or movie guilty pleasure?

I love love love New Girl. It is so quirky and fun.  Zoey Deschanel is a queen. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it.

What are three things that you can’t live without?

The three F’s: family, friends, and food. All 3 keep me grounded.

Which would you prefer as a second home: A mountain cabin, beach house or big city condo?

As pretty as the beach in, my favorite place that I have traveled so far is Colorado so I would go with a mountain cabin for sure.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

I’m currently studying to become a nurse, so hopefully doing that I love while contributing to the overall good of the world as well!

Meet our Summer Intern Alecia!

What were you expecting your first day interning and how was it different?

My first day that I was coming into the office I was so nervous that I showed up a half an hour early, because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t late. I wore nice clothes too, which was really unnecessary. Now I just wear whatever I can find, because it’s a really laid back environment.

What is your favorite part about interning for SMS?

The salads! Amanda feeds me every time I come into the office and it is the greatest part of my entire week (besides babysitting!). I’m a poor college kid who eats peanut butter sandwiches so getting some good food is awesome.

What is your favorite quote?

“When I went to school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life.” –John Lennon

What is the furthest you have ever been from home?

I went to Hawaii with my whole family! It was so beautiful, everything looked like a picture on a  postcard.

What is your TV or movie guilty pleasure?

I spend a really embarrassing amount of time watching Law and Order: SVU. I’ve seen some episodes about 4 times, but would still watch them again!

What are three things that you can't live without?

My pillow, my phone, FOOD!

Which would you prefer as a second home: A mountain cabin, beach house or big city condo?

I’m not sure! Either a mountain cabin or a beach house. I love the outdoors, so I would be really happy at either of those places. I think Tennessee is beautiful, so I may be leaning more towards a mountain cabin!

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Hopefully by then I’ll be a success in the PR world and have a few kids of my own!

for 4 of my 5 years in college.

I would love to have a conversation with Mr. Rogers. I would thank

him for providing a wonderful children’s TV show that taught me many life lessons. Also,

he seemed like he would be a nice friend to have.

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day? While I know it is considered a

“lazy” Sunday, I would probably go workout, maybe run around the neighborhood. I would

also go to a café, grab a nice cup of coffee, and read about the fascinating subject of

human psychology. Science fiction is also a fun choice.

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child while working for SMS?

“Do you have hygiene problems?”

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be?
I always wanted to be

a doctor. However, I always thought in the back of my mind that I would be a famous

too far off.

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three items, what would they be?

A guitar and a very long book to keep my sanity, and either some communicating device or stick to

write “S.O.S” in the sand (assuming there is sand at all).

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter?

It was a babysitter’s first day, and she took my brother and I to Easton mall. After a very

fun day in the mall, our babysitter realized she forgot where she parked her car. So we

looked for her car for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, my brother and I continuously made

fun of her (out of love) for temporarily losing her car.

What has been your most memorable experience while working with SMS?

When I babysat for one of my first families, I ended up babysitting these

two boys for about a week. Near the end they very sweetly began to call

me “Uncle Jason” even after I repeatedly and nicely told them that calling

me just “Jason” was totally fine. That was a moment that truly warmed my

heart.

Meet Christine!

Age: 20

Major: Biology, Minor in Studio Art

Favorite Color: Purple

and sitting in the grass watching the fireworks show light up the night.

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who would it be and

why?
Leonardo Da Vinci, he is my favorite artist and he was a great scientific

mind, way before his time. I would definitely ask for some drawing tips!

It is a lazy Sunday, how would you spend your day? Watching kids movies on

Netflix all day. I can always watch a Disney movie!

What is the funniest comment you have heard from a child while working

for SMS?
The funniest comment I’ve heard from a SMS kid was when one of the

little boys wanted to use his light sabers and have a Jedi fight, but when I told him I

didn’t know how, he couldn’t believe it! He tried to teach me some Jedi moves, but I

didn’t do so well. He very bluntly told me I wasn’t cut out for Jedi school.

When you were a kid growing up, what did you want to be? I’ve always loved

animals, so I wanted to be a vet for a long time.

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could pick three items, what

would they be?
My sketchbook, pencils, and matches. I would want to draw

everything I saw on the island, and I would need the matches to light a fire to keep

warm, because I am always cold.

What is the funniest memory from your childhood babysitter? I remember

playing hide and seek with her, and I found a really good hiding spot behind the

couch. She actually couldn’t find me, and ended up begging me to come out. She

probably didn’t find it very funny, but I sure did at the time.

What has been your most memorable experience while working with SMS?

I went to the zoo with two sisters earlier this summer, and they had so much fun

seeing all the animals, the animal show, and most of all, getting dippin’ dots. It was

such a fun day, and they really found as much joy in animals as I have.
